Lovely antique porcelain child's jug was made by Wileman & Co. (Foley China), Staffordshire England. It depicts a hen on one side, a little boy on the other, with blue forget-me-nots at the handle. There is an excerpt from "Contentment" by Eugene Field published in Lullaby Land: Songs of Childhood: But oh, alas! How very sad! When gentle spring rolled round again childless was the old red hen. The jug is approx. 4 1/8" tall, and is trimmed in gold. There is a dark pit in the glaze near the top rim, a flaw from manufacturing. There are a few small spots of yellowing in the glaze (near the base, inside the spout, and interior), and a little wear to the gold trim, primarily around the top rim. In otherwise very good antique condition, there are no chips or cracks.
