GAS-S-s-s, a mash-up of the science fiction and comedy genres, is a post-apocalyptic tale viewed through the lens of Roger Corman.

Much influenced by notions of an alternative society, George Armitage's script follows the travels of hippies Cole & Cilla (Robert Corff and Elaine Giftos) along with their friends (Bud Cort, Tally Coppola, Cindy Williams and Ben Vereen) who, after a military chemical accident of poisonous GAS-S-s-s has killed off everyone over the age of 25, head out for the desert. Guided by a mysterious Edgar Allen Poe figure (complete with raven), they meet a grotesque collection of characters as they search for a hippy commune and freedom in New Mexico.

What makes the film so exhilarating is Corman's playful transformations (in which Hell's Angels become the conservative guardians of the golf links and the under-25s immediately resume the political squabbling of their elders) and his willingness to parody his previous work as he goes.
