Beautiful Antique 1894 Holy Bible with 2000 Beautiful Illustrations in Color and Black & White with two functional metal clasps.

It is a large Bible at approximately 13” x 11" x 4.5". It is in good condition with some expected age wear.

It is absolutely beautifully illustrated with 2000 illustrations in black & white and color, and many full page, many by Dore. Most tissue papers are in place. There are two functional metal clasps. Just stunning!

It is a Pronouncing Edition Pictorial Family Bible. This item features a heavily molded leather cover with intricate gilt ornamentation and illustration, same to the spine.

“The bindings of the Bibles are varied with good taste, to meet the wants of customers; the price of all being extremely reasonable.”

Condition:

The binding is secure, with a one inch crack at upper region front board-to-spine. Wear to boards and spine. Binding is secure but cracked in three or four sections, approximately five or six lose pages but none are missing. A few tissue papers are also mission, but most are present. Some pages show soiling and most are browning with an occasional wrinkle. All pages gilt edges. Sculptured, full leather covers with gilt; the spine with embossed gilt decoration, bands and lettering. Wear on edges and corners of covers and covers in general.

Owners name on title page. The family records pages have been removed. The Family Portraits pages are present and have no entries. (see pictures as they are part of the description)

This antique Family Bible contains nearly all of the features offered by publishers at the time. A beautiful Bible that not only teaches the Gospel, but also furthers the religious understanding of the old and new testaments and reads like a history book. It details life in ancient times as it relates to the Holy Land and the Egyptian influence, with all the struggles and celebrations.

The family bible might have been the only book purchased for an American home and so, publishers crammed them with additions to make their volume more desirable and this Bible is a very nice copy.

Everything is very well explained and illustrated. So much detail, it is interesting to read, not just as the Bible it is, but as a historic account of the times of the old and new testaments.
