Animatronic/make-up effects expert Stan Winston makes his directorial debut here. Stan was responsible for the Alien, Terminator, and the dinosaurs of 'Jurassic Park' to name just a few.  

When careless vacationing city kids on dirt bikes run down a child in the backwoods, the victim's father (Lance Henricksen) consults a wizened witch woman. She summons up a demon of revenge, a tall creature with big claws which resembles the Ymir from Ray Harryhausen's '20 Million Miles to Earth'. The monster sets out to kill the road-hogs in standard body count fashion and in so doing gradually begins to resemble Henricksen. The grief stricken Henricksen eventually tries to stop it.

This movie is dark, smoky and dreary with the rural setting resembling the 'Waltons' complete with harmonica score and dirty-faced children and makes for a rich gothic folklore tale.
