A beautiful Russian Matroyshka one of a kind painted by the talented Symbrisk artist Albina Zolotovskaya. In this doll she portrays the russian holiday Maslenitsa. is a traditional Russian Festival at the end of the winter, which lasts a week. As the German Carnival , it is an originally Pagan and an Christian Orthodox celebration; but since the Christianisation of Russia, it corresponds to the Christian cycle. While related customs in all Orthodox cultures exist, this article specifically deals with the Russian form of this tradition. Maslenitsa is the week before the start of the Orthodox lent. The name - Maslo is butter in Russian - stems from the fact, that this week the consumption of meat already banned the Orthodox believers, but is still allowed by milk, dairy products, eggs and fish. The set is signed by the artist on the bottom of the first doll. The size of the first doll is 7.50 x 3.5 inches ( 19 x 9 cm ).
