A beautiful Russian Matroyshka one of a kind painted by the talented Symbrisk artist Albina Zolotovskaya. In this doll she portrays the russian holiday Maslenitsa. is a traditional Russian Festival at the end of the winter, which lasts a week. As the German Carnival , it is an originally Pagan and an Christian Orthodox celebration; but since the Christianisation of Russia, it corresponds to the Christian cycle. Maslenitsa is the week before the start of the Orthodox lent. The name - Maslo is butter in Russian - stems from the fact, that this week the consumption of meat already banned the Orthodox believers, but is still allowed by milk, dairy products, eggs and fish.
