Brand new factory sealed dvd of a long suppressed political thriller.
Here is a movie made more than sixty years ago, and it feels as if it were made yesterday due to todays political climate. An unseen legend that was never shown on TV or released to home video. The story is a matter of many levels, some of them frightening.
In a riveting opening sequence that could be out of the 'Twilight Zone', a group of American combat infantrymen are shown being brainwashed by a confident Chinese communist hypnotist, who has them so surely under his control that one man is ordered to strangle his buddy, and cheerfully complies.
Frank Sinatra has nightmares of when he was a prisoner during the Korean War. He tries to stop brainwashed, zombie-like Laurence Harvey from assassinating a presidential candidate at Madison Square Garden. Harvey was programmed in Manchuria to obey orders whenever he sees a Queen of Diamonds. His mother (Angela Lansbury, who was nominated for an Oscar) is behind the plot to have her vice-presidential-nominee husband become president.
Sinatra and Henry Silva (playing a Korean) have an early (for the U.S.) martial-arts battle, with Janet Leigh, Whit Bissell, and Reggie Nalder. 'Suddenly', the other Sinatra assassination movie was also kept out of circulation for years. Frank felt guilty after JFK was assassinated and believed these movies were responsible. He tried to buy as many prints of the films as he could and had them destroyed.
