The late Alan Rickman ('Harry Potter' series) stars as legendary NYC club owner Hilly Kristal, who, during the '70s, wanted to create a venue for country, bluegrass and blues music (thus the name CBGB). When those acts became difficult to book, to paraphrase a line--Conway Twitty probably won't be stopping by anytime soon--he shifted the club's focus to local bands playing original music.
Unwittingly he launched the careers of Patti Smith, Talking Heads, Blondie, the Ramones, Lou Reed & Iggy Pop all portrayed by actors. Sometimes, comic-bookish visuals remind us of an episode of TV's 'Batman' from the '60s, and at least for a while there's some surface amusement in seeing a litany of bands and personalities that defined New York's punk scene and changed the face of music history.
