JACKIE GLEASON A D
In 1952 a life-long dream came true for Jackie Gleason. For years he had dreamed of the day when he could hear the musical instrument closest to his heart, the trumpet, used as he al,ays had deeply felt that it should be, like a human voice. The oppor tunity had come, even though it was still nothing but a gamble. He hired the musicians he wanted and out of his own pocket paid for a recording session that was strictly according to his own musical ideas. With a string section and Bobby Hackett on trumpet playing the "human voice- style that Jackie had en-visioned, the resulting records were successful beyond all his hopes. The rest is well-known history. Album followed album and now we have come to associate the name Jackie Gleason with still another facet of his many sided talents: music.
ALBy of RECORD HITS
Jackie is actually not a new-comer on the musical scene, as many of his closest friends are musicians. He appeared in the picture "Orchestra Wives- as the bass player with the immortal Glenn Miller Orchestra, playing a comedy relief role.
Not a trained musician by professional standards, his success has been the natural flowering of a deep abiding love for music. He plays trumpet at parties, and picks out his own melodies at the piano, but it is his instinctive feeling for music that has made possible the development of a great musical personality: a per-sonality that has been so warmly recognized in many other areas of the entertainment world.
Each song in this folio has been recorded in one of the many Jackie Gleason Capitol Record Albums. We hope that you find as much pleasure in it as the publishers have had in working to-gether with Jackie Gleason in putting it together.
