From the preface of this 1966 publication: The rapid growth of macromolecular science and technology has resulted in a phenomenal expansion of publications in this area. There is every indication that this will continue as the result of the discovery of new initiator systems for we1l?known monomer types as well as the discovery of new monomer types and the attendant chemistry of associated initiator systems. These developments are necessarily followed by research resulting in new polymer characterization, new theories, new techniques, new applications, and new technology. Also, during recent years the technical importance of high polymers has grown rapidly. This is emphasized by the fact that presently about one?third of all American chemists and chemical engineers are directly associated with high?polymer chemistry. The increasing need for publications in this field which is demanded by both authors and readers is, however, only partly satisfied by the existing national and international periodicals. The great scattering of publications through the literature constitutes a serious handicap for those who wish to keep abreast of the new and rapidly advancing developments in the field. It is therefore highly opportune that REVIEWS IN MACROMOLECULAR CHEMISTRY; this international publication of advances in high?polymer chemistry in its broadest sense, is being introduced.
