JON SABLE FREELANCE was one of the comic book series that pulled me back into reading comics again, after a hiatus of nearly 20 years. Jon Sable is a former African game warden, whose wife and children are murdered by poachers. Sable begins to hunt down the murderers one by one; but discovers that he needs to cast his net beyond the plains and jungles of Africa -- to the United States. Sable returns to America, where he poses as the writer of children's books by day; but, by night, he becomes an urban vigilante, with some similarities to BATMAN and GREEN ARROW (which artist & writer MIKE GRELL also drew for DC Comics for many years). And Jon Sable has a death wish -- he doesn't care WHAT stands in his way, until all the people responsible for the death of his family are brought to justice -- Sable's brand of justice. This graphic novel encompasses issues #1 through #7 of the original 1983 run of JON SABLE FREELANCE from FIRST COMICS, and is not for the squeamish or the superhero crowd -- JON SABLE FREELANCE packs a punch that even Ernest Hemingway would admire. This series is top-notch!
