From 1954 through 1965, between my 7th and 18th years, one of the TOP books on my own personal summer reading list was Jules Verne's 20,000 LEAGUES UNDER THE SEA.  The 1954 film produced by WALT DISNEY had whet my appetite for the underwater adventures of CAPTAIN NEMO and his crew; and I was very pleasantly surprised that the the Verne novel itself added so much more to the Disney abridgment.  And yet. . .there were still unanswered questions about the story that had bothered me for years -- until this latest Naval Institute Press edition was released in 1993, which completely restores large segments of the original novel, which had been deleted from previous editions, sometimes for "political" reasons, and attempts to correct translation errors which had appeared previously.  In addition, this new version contains DOZENS of vintage black-and-white illustrations from earlier French editions.  So, if you're looking for some great summer reading, do what I did for eleven years as a child -- dive with the submarine NAUTILUS and its crew, under the leadership of CAPTAIN NEMO, and take a trip 20,000 MILES UNDER THE SEA!
