Rare first edition of this very scarce and beautifully illustrated work on rabbit keeping. Features 4 double-page and 2 full-page stunning steel-cut engravings of rabbit breeds plus many in text illustrations. Also a breathtaking gilt portrait of a rabbit on the front cover.

No date of publication but the publisher changed it's name to Cassell and Company in 1883 and the ads in the back promote a book, The Illustrated Book of Pigeons, which was published in the late 1870s. Additionally, later editions of this book listed the number of 1000s sold - this one doesn't.

Bound in original gilt-stamped beveled brown leather boards.  216 pages plus ads.
