THE MISSOURI CLIPPER

by T. Morris Longstreth

Illustrated by Robert A. Graef.

New York: D. Appleton-Century Company, 1941.

First edition, first printing.

Light green cloth with dark green lettering and cover illustration; in an illustrated dust jacket.

Internal gutters tanned from acidic production glue, mild age-toning to the cloth extremities, else a near fine copy; in a mildly soiled and modestly shelf worn dust jacket with several chips to the upper front panel, and mild foxing to the flaps.

A seventeen-year-old pitching sensation, while trying out for the Kansas City Colts, pitches a shut-out against the major league Detroit Tigers. The sports writers nickname him "The Missouri Clipper" and Del Baker, the Detroit manager who is convinced he has seen another Bob Feller, is anxious to sign him up.  Unfortunately, the boy has promised his mother not to enter baseball until his twenty-first birthday which presents problems.

A VERY SCARCE young adult baseball novel.

This is the only copy I have seen in 40 plus years of collecting baseball fiction.

Not listed in McCue.
